Hello!
So I have had a busy weekend. In a good way! We went to Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland, Europe, for a night away and we came back Sunday morning because I had a lot of writing work to do!
I'm really glad I started this weekly blog that added to my workload! I'm four days out from the next deadline which is for a black comedy.
I actually have been so busy today my wonderful best friend and fiancee helped write this blog!
Oh, I should add some sort of picture shouldn't I?

Us 9 years ago, imagining my name up on the big screen!
(Actually us a few days after our first date!)
So I gotta go back to work. Here is Celine:
Hi everybody! Full disclosure: this is not Kevin. It is Celine, Kevin’s non-writer fiancée. Also his only fiancée… He doesn’t have a writer fiancée as well as me, I’m just trying to get across the fact that I am a non-writer. Which this opening has made abundantly clear, I’m sure…
Anyway! Kevin is busy this evening working on something with a deadline and I decided I’d take the opportunity to take over his Sunday night blog to ramble. Not entirely sure what I will be rambling about yet but we’ll come up with something!
So, Kev’s next short is due this Thursday and the genre is black comedy. I believe he talked about it a bit in his last blog - let me see - ah yes, he did! About the origins of the term black humour! Well, we were actually chatting about his idea for this short over a drink at the nice hotel we went away to this weekend and I was able to throw ideas back and forth with him to try to help out in some small way (take that, hopefully non-existent writer fiancée!!).
The idea is essentially an end of the world scenario where a man spends his last days alive trying to get in touch with someone he dislikes so he can give out to them before he dies. It’s a play on the idea that when a disaster is about to happen (e.g. plane crash), people always use their last moments to call a loved one or leave a message. We talked it through a bit and both had a bit of a laugh about it so hopefully it’ll fit the bill of black humour pretty nicely. Not to be biased but I think Kev will nail it!
Hmm, what else to discuss. I don’t know if people know this but Kev is writing a comedy for me about a Christmas camp! It’s going to be one of my Christmas presents! He also wrote a romcom about a lumberjack falling in love called ‘Felling In Love’ which was a birthday present. I love most of Kev’s scripts but Felling In Love is a masterpiece and the best thing that’s ever been written tbh. He’s got my humour down to a tee (it’s not too different from his, to be fair) and I laughed so much when reading it. So I am super excited about the Christmas Camp movie (I can’t remember the name of it, whoopsies)!
It’s also going to be a zero conflict script, again because Kev knows me so well! My favourite shows/films/games are ones with very few real conflicts and where people are generally just really nice and friendly and wholesome. Think Parks & Rec, Schitt’s Creek, The Good Place etc. Also, Christmas is my favourite time of year, by a mile, and I love all the cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies. And also also, I do enjoy a good summer camp movie. So yeah, it is ticking a whole load of my boxes. Just add in a nice cute romantic subplot and we’ve got a full house!
(Oh God what is happening to my blog?!!)
Hello blog readers! Kevin here again, I’ve asked Celine to check on my work that I’ve been at all day today. She is great at reviewing and giving me notes on stuff. She ever so helpfully suggested she do a guest blog for me while I battled with some image editing problems. Anyhoo, let’s see what she’s been blogging about.
(heroically skims over blog)
…...Hmmm, interesting…
….I really think it’s weird she calls me Kev and not Handsome…. (I can’t call you Handsome around other people, it’s weird!)
….All checks out so far. Yes, I have a lot to get to with writing just before Christmas. I also still have plans to start a podcast about what you would do if you ruled your own country. Hopefully I can start that soon. A new plan is to also create some pitch decks for these shorts. I think that might be fun.
Next weekend, I will be in Paris attending a film festival that my fantasy heist comedy feature screenplay Five Orcs is a finalist in. So I will have to figure out how to blog from there. As we have four cats who need to be looked after, my cool Celine will be staying behind to look after them while I bravely travel to Paris alone.
So I will ask Celine to finish this blog off. She says she is not a writer but just you wait. She is going to coin such a magnificent, beautiful, thought provoking phrase to end this blog. Much more intelligent than my simple, “thanks for reading” bits.
Hold on, I’ll get her…
….This is going to be fantastic, I cannot wait for God to speak through her writing just after this…
Here she is…….
(heroine-ically skims over Handsome’s addition)
Ooh the pitch decks for the shorts might end up being a joint effort as I really enjoy that kind of thing. It’d be fun to work on and get semi-involved in all this writing malarkey!
Hmm, I really wish I’d read the whole thing before I started typing my goodbye… He has set me up now!
Thank you to whoever has read this blog! You will return to your scheduled Kevin Kev Handsome Ryan’s blogs from next Sunday onwards (provided I don’t get a frantic message on Sunday from a drunk, victorious Kevin, asking me to cobble something together!!)
As for my thought-provoking phrase to end things on…. If you ever find yourself unable to sleep due to neck pain, try a flat pillow! It may seem like a terrible idea but it works wonders! Think on it!
(Actually ((Hi, Kevin here again)) That's a pretty good phrase. I was kinda expecting something stupid but it's good.)
Bye all!!
Kevin and Celine
P.S - Next week, BEEP tells it like it is!
