Hello!

I'm having to write this in a little bit of a rush as today my nephew plays the final of the North Tipperary Under 17's Hurling Final. That'll be on soon and I have to do some driving beforehand so I figured I would write this blog while I have time.

To update you on the #55Genres challenge. I have until Thursday to complete an action comedy short. I should be alright with this one, comedy is kind of my thing. I'm currently writing an action comedy, a spoof of Under Siege so if only this challenge included features too, I could count that. Maybe I can whip up a short version of the spoof (titled JINGLE REBELS since I set it at Christmas too). Hmm...maybe. Kat Monstro, the hero in my feature, is an enjoyable character to write so far.

OK, potential plan in place already! Actually I did promise a writer that I would write one of these shorts centered around cake so...chef looking to fight for what's right to put in a sponge cake? It might work! (Puts on my thinking/Chef's hat)

So in other news! Which I'm going to deliver in a random collection.

I got an update this week that my feature Five Orcs got to the quarter finals of the Filmmatic Comedy Awards Season 6f The fantasy comedy is also a finalist in the Film Fantastique De France screenplay contest. The story is about Five orcs needing to pull off a heist on the fortress of their own evil Queen to save themselves from an oncoming final battle with the forces of good. I'm quite happy with it and think if you like all things Tolkien it will be a fun read. I would say it's like Shrek was living in Mordor. I also ended up writing a pilot for the Five Orcs and now think the pilot might even be better. A Prison Break meets Bob's Burgers type of story? Sounds like fun to me!

Anyway, other news. Clubhouse. I still don't get it. I actually think I get some anxiety or something thinking of talking on it. Which is unusual because I am a pretty chatty person. I joined a filmmakers room and suddenly got a bit stressed with only the idea that I might be called "on stage". I think it's because I can't see any faces and that usually there is a couple of dozen people listening. I think I stress that I'm taking up people's time to say nothing interesting. Whereas if I could see their faces I could judge their boredom better. I think that's what bothered me anyway. I don't know. I do know I'm likely going to force myself to join that room again on Friday and go "on stage" and say hello. Screw it. What's worst that can happen. So yes, Clubhouse...I don't get it. Apparently Karen Civil might have stole sixty thousand? I don't really know. I listened to a few minutes of the discussion about if she is a fraud and all I got was people arguing and someone absolutely sure that she knows people that can trace all of your details just by giving those people your name.

So if you see me on Clubhouse calling myself Todd, just run with it. I'm just being cautious!!

Other news: Last week was full of writing so I don't think I will be too harsh on myself with a little less this week. I think I'm ready to start writing a short story on the Roman Empire. Oh, fair warning, this blog could be consistent references to Pax Alpha, my fantasy historical fiction story about the end of the Western Roman Empire and a grandmother out for revenge. I'm working on writing a short story about the first emperor, Augustus and his journey to the small island of Pianosa to meet his exiled grandson Agrippa Postumus. This part, is actual history, the emperor had exiled him, supposedly dear Postumus was a "wild beast" of a man and the emperor made the senate promise not to allow him off the island. Augustus did visit him shortly before the old emperor died. What's fascinating to me is we don't know what happened during their meeting. We know Augustus left back to mainland Italy and soon died. Then, an agent of the dead emperor travelled to Pianosa and assassinated Agrippa Postumus. Now that is possibly under orders of the new emperor, Tiberius or under the final wishes of Augustus. I'm going with Augustus ordered it, so fearful he was of his grandson returning to Rome. My short story is going to focus on Augustus meeting Agrippa and learning the young man is still the wild beast the Empire feared he was. That is to say that Agrippa is probably going to be some form of werewolf! So that's going to be fun because it's another addition into the Pax Alpha world. So far there is 10th century monsters from North East China, time travelling, shapeshifters, Loch Ness Monsters, magic galore and now werewolves inside in this Roman Empire epic.

I like the contrast I have in myself where I am writing silly, absurd comedies, low budget shorts and ridiculously large scaled fantasy epic. Imagine if Tolkien wrote The Silmarillion and followed it up with Spaceballs! That seems to be what I want to do! Shouldn't be that hard!

That's another blog! I don't really want to use Steven Seagal as this blog's image so here is a random picture. Here I am in Sydney putting on my bravest face during a game of bowls that I was useless at. This may be the one game Celine excels at. Please note: the people behind me are no relation or friends of mine. They are other bowlers who I consistently interrupted with my own ball getting in their way. (No regrets!)

Thanks for reading

Kevin
